2019 YUGUANG ISLAND ART FESTIVAL
Having fascinating sea views, mesmerizing sunsets, the Yuguang Island, located to the south of Anping Harbor, is connected to Tainan by the Yuguang Bridge. It is a place full of childhood memories of people born in the 1940s and 1950s. The statues of the Eight Immortals, characters of the Journey to the West, Chinese zodiac signs, the mother and child, and cowboy riding his cow in the Qiu Mao Park used to be popular attractions for visitor to the area. Despite the passage of time, all those childhood memories do not fade nor be gone. Instead, they have brought about more passion.
The second Yuguang Island Art Festival is taking place in 2019 with the participation of seven groups of artists, who have created more than 10 artworks that are able to be integrated with the local landscapes based on the“Memories in paradise” , building a brand new world of imagination that being themed as“ The New Island Paradise”. In addition to the land artworks by the sea, in the local village, sculptures and murals are also waiting to be spotted. The Cultural Affairs Bureau of Tainan City Government, together with National Taipei University of Education and Sonder Foundation had jointly organized the Ar/t/chitecture: Tainan Environmental artwork Exhibition f in November 2018. A total of 7 artists from Taiwan, the Netherlands, Australia and Poland have created large sculptures on the Yuguang Island and held workshops. The artists worked with the residents and students to create artworks in local residences and on walls in public spaces using vivid colors, abstract lines, and geometric figures. While presenting a rather different graffiti culture that is beyond the scope of conventional image for homes, the results also provide visitors a different perspective to see and enjoy Yuguang Island.
Starts from March 30, the 23-day exhibition, having various art installations and weekend activities, is about to be a place that keeps people away from the turmoil of everyday life, also a place where people create unique memories alongside such beautiful ocean scenery, making the ‘’Island a New Paradise ‘’for every generation working together to create better life experiences.
