2025 Dongxing Canal Light Art Festival

2025 Dongxing Canal Light Art Festival

《Twinkle Twinkle Little Star》

Reflecting the City’s Light Through Everyday Landscapes.

The Dongxing Canal Light Festival begins with the everyday landscape — not to create spectacle, but to let art return to the rhythm of the land.

Each artist uses “flicker” as a shared language, allowing light to breathe with the wind, the water, and the plants, reflecting the gentle pulse of the city.

“Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” is not meant to brighten the city, but to rekindle our sense of the everyday — those fleeting, ordinary moments that shape our memories.

Along the canal, when one happens to look up, the light shimmers, the water glows, and the familiar landscape comes alive again. Through these delicate installations, the artists let Dongxing Canal shine once more.

artworks:

Coordinate Series - Breeze

Creator|Kou Tak-Leong

Design concept|

Through the strategic deployment of multiple linear laser light installations, this work meticulously scans the natural terrain, intricately delineating the multiple facets and contours of plants. As the life cycle of the plants unfolds, and various environmental elements, such as wind and rain, come into play, the laser installations, despite their daily repetitive operation, yield to the capriciousness of the organic environment, thus metamorphosing the entire space into a realm imbued with vitality and transience. The light is in a constant state of flux, much like a cinematic composition woven in harmony with time, revealing the poetic interplay between artificial light and the natural environment.

The Sound Blossoms

Creator|Po-Ching Chou&Kun-Han Ho

Design concept|

If every object in this world could speak,
what would you wish to say to it?
And if a voice could bloom into a flower,
what shape would it take?

This work is a sound kinetic sculpture, blending resonance and mechanical motion. Its core is a pre-composed score that activates metal tubes of varying frequencies through a resonance control system, allowing the objects themselves to “speak.”

The sounds are not played through speakers, but arise naturally through the vibration of materials, revealing the hidden murmurs and languages of things.

These sound waves organically unfold in space — a delicate fusion of algorithm and motion — awakening the original voices of matter, and along the riverside, a flower of sound quietly blooms.

Ears of Light

Creator|winnowork

Design concept|

A row of slender structures stands quietly, swaying gently like ears of rice.
Each arc is adorned with tiny grains of light, softly flickering in the night — twinkling, breathing, and whispering the rhythm of the wind.

The work responds to the transformation of this land — from an irrigation canal nourishing the fields, to a tranquil green corridor within the city. Light dances with the breeze, reflects upon the water, and flows with a gentle persistence, like a song from childhood — tender, lingering, unfolding quietly along the riverbank.

It is a poetic dialogue between time and landscape, where every glimmer invites us to feel the subtle weave of nature, memory, and the present moment.

SWEET NIGHT

Creator|Kuo Wei LIN

Design concept|

Sweet Night arises from the observation of subtle lights in everyday life —those quiet exchanges of emotion that unfold beyond the noise of the world. The deer in this work are not mere depictions of nature, but symbols of connection — moments of gaze where emotion is silently illuminated.

This site was once a deer farm, a place where herds once lived and roamed freely. Now, the deer return in the form of light, as if their gentle presence has reemerged from memory.

Light, as the language of sculpture, is not only used to create atmosphere, but to evoke memory itself. When night falls, and the deer glow softly in the dark, it recalls the fragile, quiet, yet profoundly real moment when something deep within the heart is awakened.

Chasing the Light

Bamboo Craft Artisans|Li Qian-Hong & Li Cheng-Zhi

Design concept|

The work uses bamboo weaving to express the rhythm of light.

Fine bamboo strips shimmer and extend with the wind, revealing natural texture by day and gentle flowing light by night.

“Chasing the Light” reflects the harmony between people and nature, where light breathes through bamboo, guiding us toward inner illumination.

Raindrops

Creator|Initial Complex Studio

Design concept|

Raindrops captures the subtle changes and emotions of encountering nature for the first time —where every streak of light becomes a raindrop falling into the water, each drop stirring gentle ripples that expand outward. In that fleeting moment when a raindrop cuts through the air, the scent of moisture arises,

and the glimmer of light spreads into infinite waves. Within this mist of light and shadow, everything flows, appears, and fades like water. The ripples drift through space, reflecting the twinkling rhythm of light — flickering, vanishing, and returning.

The Moon and the Milky Way

Creator|LIN, SHU-YU

Design concept|

Clusters of luminous spheres rest upon the water, forming a gentle trace of the Milky Way.Their soft, flickering light falls upon the viewers, like the moon hanging in the sky and the stars shimmering above —reflecting one another, quietly and romantically illuminating the night.

亮晶晶小怪獸 The Little Shiny Monster  &  金光小怪獸 Golden Monster

Creator|Urban Art studio X Liujla Elementary School

production cooperation | Vangin Design

Design concept|

"The Little Shiny Monster"  is a cute little creature that loves collecting light.

By the Dongxing Canal, it discovered the shimmering reflections on the river, the starlight, and the laughter of children - so it decided to store all these lights on its own body. Next to the main work stands the Golden Monster (decorated with rhombus-shaped sequins), created by children.

They each drew their own imagined version of the monster, whose sparkling scales flutter in the wind and shine in the light. Under the sunlight by day and the illumination by night, the children's imaginations glimmer like stars - and together, the little monsters by the Dongxing Canal radiate a light of happiness.

Bamboo Light of Prosperity Illuminates the Windy City

Co-creating School|Hsing Lung Primary School

Design concept|

Bamboo Weaving Co-creation invites students from Xinglong Elementary School to collaborate with Hengshan Studio, using bamboo as the medium to transform traditional craftsmanship into a language of light. The work is built upon handwoven bamboo structures combined with gentle illumination, symbolizing the connection between people and the land, allowing natural materials to bloom with new vitality at night.

Each bamboo fiber bears the warmth of human touch and the trace of time.
As light filters through the woven gaps, shadows and reflections intertwine like ripples on water, mirroring the gentle rhythm of the Dongxing Canal.
This work is more than an installation — it is a weaving of memory, where hands connect people, and light threads the stories of this land.

Wind Dancing Lights

Co-creating School|Dong Xing Elementary School

Design concept|

Under sunlight and lamplight, the Little Windmill shimmers with shifting colors, reflecting the gentle movement of wind and light. Children drew their imagined winds with free, flowing lines, turning every brushstroke into a rhythm of sparkle and motion.

When a breeze passes by, the windmills slowly spin, their colors glimmering across the water and through the shadows of trees — as if the light of Dongxing Canal itself is breathing.
This work captures how children see the wind, and through their creation, they learn to notice that light lives within everyday life, and that even the ordinary can shine.

星願. JF Twinkle Plant

Co-creating School|Jiafeng Elementary School

Design concept|

Who can deny that going with the flow is also a kind of persistence?
The deeper meaning of the phrase "going with the flow" is beautifully conveyed through simple language. The imagery of water flows symbolizes the power of persistence in adapting to changes.
